Fair and square south of the Equator lie two of Raja Ampat’s superstars – the mushroom islets of Piaynemo, and the great island of Misool, one of the four Kings for which Raja Ampat is so named.  Located on the eastern side of Pulau Penem in the northern part of the famed Fam (or Pam) islands, Piaynemo lies about about midway between Wajag in the north and Misool in the south, with vistas over the island megalopolis spread out below.

While Piaynemo is all about the views which have come to epitomize Raja Ampat, the laid-back island of Pulau Andau in the southern part of the Fam islands is home to talcum powder soft beaches which dazzle the eye, lapped by crystalline aqua-emerald waters so transparent you’d be forgiven to think you were looking through clear glass.  From above, Misool looks like a massive triangular jellyfish with trailing tentacles that stretch for miles.  Its in these “tentacles” that lie its most stunning sights.  One of those quintessentially Raja Ampat sights is the Dafalen “Love Lagoon” – a striking heart shaped pool framed by sheer cliffs, climbing up which reveals the sensational view below.  A quick boat ride west of Dafalen brings us to the majestic Puncak Harfat viewpoint which offers birds eye views over the mosaic unfolding below of limestone towers, lagoons and islets cloaked in impenetrable tropical foliage stretching to the horizon.   Following the line of islands east will take us to the screensaver worthy Balbulol Lagoon featuring towers of rock which reach for the sky rising straight out of tantalizing teal and turquoise waters below.
